Cherries in their pulp hide a large antioxidant – anthocyanins. Antioxidants slow down the aging process, prolong physical and mental fitness. They support the fight against inflammation, reduce the level of bad LDL cholesterol.
Anthocyanins have an effect on the elasticity and permeability of capillaries, especially those in the iris. They accelerate the process of regeneration of the visual dye-rhodopsin necessary to register the light falling on the retina. Cherries, thanks to the presence of anthocyanins (250-600mg in 100cm3 of pulp), have an effect on visual acuity.
Cherry is a “bomb” of vitamins and minerals. For example, they have more iron than apples. In addition to this, cherry contains tannins, pectin and inosite, known as vitamin B8, which prevents graying. Inosite has a positive effect on the excretion of cholesterol from the body. The presence of coumarins in the pulp of cherries creates an irreplaceable component in the diet of patients after embolism, infarction or stroke. With regular eating of cherries, chest pains decrease, the work of the heart is evened out.Coumarin supplied with fats or alcohol is better absorbed and spreads throughout the body. It was considered that it can be used in the treatment of vegetative neuroses with symptoms of spasm (in 100cm3 cherry pulp there is 2-4mg of coumarin). Coumarin inhibits the growth of all bacteria, viruses (including HIV) and fungi. It has a deadly effect on protozoa and mites.
Despite all the advantages, cherries should not be eaten by people suffering from stomach and / or duodenal ulcers. Patients with type II diabetes and obese people because its fruits irritate the digestive tract and increase appetite.
